|Notice of Special Municipal Candidate Endorsement Meeting
Meeting Date Monday January 29th, 2024
#1. Pembroke Pines Municipal Election Republican endorsement
There are two Republican candidates and two Democrats running in the nonpartisan Pembroke Pines District 3 race. I feel that in order to have our best chance at winning the seat, BREC needs to endorse and unite behind one Republican candidate so that Republican voters will also unite behind that candidate.
We have seen that when the party endorses where there are multiple Republicans running, we can make a difference and win the seat. John Herbst was endorsed by BREC in November 2022 and won in a 4-way race in Fort Lauderdale District 1 despite there being another Republican running.
When we sit out a race and make no endorsement we usually lose. BREC did not endorse in the other November 2022 Fort Lauderdale race in the 7-candidate District 4 race which had 3 Republicans running. The Democrat won that seat with 21.17% of the vote and the second place finisher was a Republican getting 20.85% who lost by only 49 total votes. We can imagine if BREC endorsed in that race the result may have been different.
There is no primary here…it’s a winner-take-all election on March 19th. Hence, why we should endorse.
#2. Presentation of a plan for how BREC may give financial support to candidates.
The members will have an opportunity to give input on this proposed financial reimbursement plan, which has been discussed and created by the “Candidate Support Committee” which will present the plan.
As well as other party business that may be added if time permits..
